Identifying Phishing Scams
Phishing is a type of fraud in which an email, SMS, or social media message is designed to imitate a trusted institution, such as your bank, employer, or service provider to entice you to click on a malicious link, open a fraudulent attachment, or disclose confidential information.

Warning Signs
How to spot a phishing attempt:- Requests for Confidential Information
AfrAsia Bank will never ask you to provide your account number, card details, password, PIN, One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or other security codes by email, SMS, WhatsApp or through unsolicited phone call. - Suspicious QR Codes (“Quishing”)
Be cautious of QR codes received by email or SMS, or displayed in public places, that claim to relate to your bank account or a payment. Scanning them may redirect you to a fraudulent login page designed to steal your personal or banking information. QR-code phishing, commonly known as quishing, is one of the fastest-growing forms of cyber fraud. - AI-Generated Voice or Video Calls
Fraudsters are increasingly using AI-generated voices and videos to impersonate relatives, colleagues or bank representatives, creating a false sense of urgency to pressure you into transferring funds or disclosing confidential information. If a call feels unusual or unexpected, end the call and contact the person directly using a trust phone number or call AfrAsia Bank on (230) 403 5500 or (230) 208 5500.
Proactive steps to secure your account:
- Verify Suspicious Requests
Contact the bank directly through our official channels before disclosing information or authorising a transaction. - Avoid Unverified Links, Attachments and QR codes
Never click on suspicious links, scan unknown QR codes, open unexpected email attachments, or download applications from unverified sources. - Strengthen Your Access Credentials
Use a strong, unique password for your banking services and enable two-factor authentication whenever available for an added layer of security. - Report Phishing Immediately
Contact the bank as soon as you receive a suspicious message or suspect that your account has been compromised. If you have been the victim of fraud, we also encourage you to report the incident to the relevant law enforcement authorities.
