The euro edged higher at $1.1640 ahead of the ECB policy meeting this afternoon, with attention centered on Lagarde’s guidance on future monetary policy.

The Pound Sterling moved a little higher at $1.3560 as the currency continued to benefit from expectations that the Bank of England may need to tighten policy if energy-driven inflation persists.

USD/JPY

The Japanese yen was steady at $153.35 with markets fully pricing in a 25bp BoJ rate hike in September and expecting further tightening in December.

AUD/USD

The Aussie slipped to $0.7215 as a further escalation of tensions between the US and Iran dampened sentiment.

The Canadian Dollar weakened modestly, with USD/CAD around $1.3805 as escalating U.S.–Canada trade tensions outweighed the benefit of surging oil prices.

The South African Rand remained on the back foot at $16.0473 ahead of local economic data that may offer additional clues about the performance of Africa's largest economy.
