The South African Rand remained on the back foot ahead of the South African Reserve Bank’s interest rate decision due later today.

Fundamental News

EUR/USD

The Euro was a tad lower to $1.1560 as ECB Christine Lagarde warns of possible monetary tightening as inflation expectations continue to build.

GBP/USD

The Pound Sterling slithered to 1.3359 versus the greenback amid ongoing uncertainty about a US–Iran ceasefire, as market look for clarity on Iran’s stance despite repeated claims by U.S President Donald Trump.

USD/JPY

The Japanese Yen weakened to $159.49 despite minutes from the Bank of Japan showing that policymakers see potential for more rate hikes if economic conditions develop as projected.

AUD/USD

The Australian Dollar slid to 0.6948 against the U.S dollar as Australia faces a stagflation dilemma, with core inflation holding at 3.3% pre-conflict and rising energy prices from the Middle East threatening additional inflation.

USD/CAD

The Canadian Dollar remained depressed at $1.3826 amid uncertainty surrounding the war in the Middle East.

USD/ZAR

The South African Rand remained on the back foot at $17.0385 ahead of the South African Reserve Bank’s interest rate decision due later today where it is expected to keep the rate steady at 6.75%.

USD/MUR

The Dollar-Rupee hopped by 15 cents to 47.06 (selling) this morning.
