Important Communiqué – COVID-19

The events surrounding COVID-19 are truly unprecedented and we are committed to constantly adapting our preventive measures as the situation evolves.

Our focus is to ensure that our facilities are tightly-controlled to maximize safety for all of us during this trying time. We have stepped up our measures by implementing new screening processes including temperature checks before you access our premises.

Our branch staff will seek your consent prior to performing this protection measure designed to detect elevated body heat from our touchless handheld thermometer gun. Should your temperature be higher than 37.5 °C, we will request you to reschedule your visit and to seek immediate medical advice.

We urge you to strictly abide by our following safety measures to limit the spread:

  • Prioritize our online banking options to avoid unnecessary visits to the branch;
  • Maintain social distancing by remaining at least 1.5 meter apart;
  • Use our hand sanitizers located throughout our facilities before and after your services;
  • and stay at home if you are feeling unwell.

19 March 2020

Important Communiqué – COVID 19

The Prime Minister of Mauritius, in a televised address, has announced a nationwide lockdown taking effect on Friday 20 March 2020 at 06H00 (GMT+4) by pausing all non-essential activities for two weeks in a bid to curb the COVID-19 spread. The country has also imposed far-reaching measures by temporarily closing its borders to all individuals, including Mauritian nationals, as from 10hrs (GMT+4) on Thursday 19 March, for a period of 15 days.

Our COVID-19 Preparedness Plan is fully active and all necessary precautions have been taken accordingly to ensure the continuity of our services. For your safety and that of our team, please be informed of the prevailing measures:

  • The Bank will operate normally and our branches in Port Louis and Ebene will be open but with a reduced staff pool owing to the current situation. Specific work arrangements have been implemented for our employees to work from home to maintain business continuity. We are ensuring that there be minimum disruptions in our activities and rely on our stakeholders’ understanding in these trying times;

  • The use of Internet Banking services is strongly recommended to avoid physical contact as much as possible. Similarly, we encourage contactless payments to reduce the risk of virus transmission;

  • Cybercriminals may use this time to launch phishing attacks, possibly citing the latest COVID-19 virus updates. We recommend much caution when opening email links or attachments. AfrAsia Bank will not ask for personal information via email or phone. Learn more

These measures are being enforced to ensure the safety of all stakeholders, including the communities in which we operate and live. Together with the Mauritius Bankers Association and the Bank of Mauritius, we will carefully monitor the situation on a daily basis and will adapt accordingly to further strengthen our support system.
